I have a UK keyboard and I want to reassign my \ key as a shift key. I cannot seem to find a way to do this, and I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks in advance!

Next QM version will have "Remap Keys" feature.

There are programs that can remap keys. Remap and uninstall. Or you can edit registry.
