Simple macro question (run macro in inactive window)

Hello, i'd like to know if it is possible to run a macro in one window (eg. Excel) and have another window open at the same time ( eg. VLC player) for the macro to work?
If possible how do i do so?

Cannot send keys and mouse clicks to inactive windows.
One workaround is to run that application (eg Excel) on a virtual computer, eg vmware player or virtualbox.
With some applications can try other ways - accessible object functions, SendKeysToWindow2.
